Review – How to gauge a seller Review – How to gauge a seller

Among the most common questions asked when shopping for a watch online is how to prove authenticity of the timepiece and ensure the legitimacy of a seller. With so much money at stake, one can rarely blame a consumer for being overly cautious. In addition, the old adage of “too good to be true” is rightfully embedded in the minds of many consumers. Although due diligence is certainly a necessary step for any prudent shopper, one doesn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to save a substantial amount of money by purchasing online! Fortunately, there are many tools available to help consumers sort through the fray.

The review process is an important part of eBay. When we receive an Review, we are careful to ensure that our client is truly happy with their purchase. Prior to posting an Review, a client will typically inspect the item prior to posting feedback online. In the extremely rare occasion there is problem, most clients will contact prior to posting a review. We strive to ensure that all of our clients are 100% satisfied. There are many sellers, however, that do not.

If a client is interested in a particular item and they search for it on eBay, they may find several hundred sellers offering the same item, in varying conditions, for a variety of prices. Let’s assume, however, that the search is refined to an item listed as “Brand New”. This will still present a buyer with many options and many prices. The obvious thing to do is make sure you read the seller’s policies. However, it is also important to read the seller’s reviews ( review tab lists over 11,000+ Positive Feedback Ratings.)

However, it is important to not only look at the feedback score, but to read the actual reviews. Many sellers may have a feedback rating of 200, with 100% positive feedback. That may automatically instill a sense of confidence. However, a more discerning eye is usually needed to really look into where that feedback has come from. Many sellers will buy several one cent auction items just to amass reviews. That 200 feedback rating with a positive rate of 100% could have simply been $2 worth of penny auctions the user just bought last week. These types of sellers are counting on you not clicking on the feedback number and actually reading the reviews ( review page is all watches and watch accessories only).

Another thing to look at are the whether the reviews the seller has are as a buyer or as a seller. It is also important to click into the items on each and every review to ensure that it’s something similar to what you intend to purchase. If a seller is selling glass figurines for $0.50, and is now suddenly selling 5 Rolex watches, it’s usually a bad sign.

One thing to keep in mind is that a single negative or neutral review is not necessarily indicative of all. Unfortunately, when dealing with thousands of clients, there will always be one or two that may leave a poor review ( review pages have experienced this on rare occasions as well.) However, it is important to look at the big picture. If a seller has sold 50 watches and has 5 bad reviews, the odds are that something very suspicious is taking place. However, if the seller has hundreds or thousands of reviews and only one or two negative reviews, it’s important not to discount a legitimate seller. It always helps to read the actual review posted and not just the feedback score.

Last but not least, feel free to ask the seller questions. eBay allows you to email the seller with any questions you may have, and the responses can be indicative of knowledge and willingness to help. The speed of the response can also speak volumes about how dedicated a company is to their clients. reviews haven’t been perfect, but we are proud to be a Top Rated eBay Seller, have a 11,000+ positive feedback rating, and the Review page is something we are very proud of.
