Independently of the major watch conventions (the SIHH watch salon in Geneva and Baselworld), manufacturers often debut new timepieces and collections at smaller events such as the recent WatchTime New York. This two-day collector’s event is hosted by WatchTime Magazine in Manhattan.
Bell & Ross and TAG Heuer are among over 30 brands that have debuted new timepieces at WatchTime New York. The following watches are highlights among those announced at the event.
BR-03-92-DIVER (Bell & Ross Aviation BR0392-D-BL-ST/SRB)
The new Bell & Ross BR 03-92-Diver watch has been highly anticipated since it was announced, enticing watch collectors and enthusiasts with its quintessential Bell & Ross square case (the first Bell & Ross diving watch to feature one). To develop this timepiece, watchmakers at Bell & Ross relied not only on their own knowledge, but also consulted professional divers and oceanic experts to meet the specifications defined by international standard ISO 6425 which allows a timepiece to be labeled as a “diving” watch.
The BR 03-92-Diver has passed the ISO 6425 testing with flying colors. The 42mm square case is composed of polished stainless steel and is water-resistant to 300 meters (1000 feet). The watch features a 2.85mm thick sapphire crystal with antireflective coating, a 2.80mm thick steel case back, and an anti-magnetic protection feature made of soft ironto protect the movement. The watch is powered by the Bell & Ross Caliber 302 self-winding automatic movement.
The watch features a 60-minute uni-directional rotating bezel, which is calibrated with a luminescent dot at the 12 o’clock position to protect against accidental rotation or incorrect setting. The crown is reinforced by a protective impact-resistant guard with a rubber insert for easy handling and legibility ashore or underwater.
TAG Heuer has also released a new special edition Steve McQueen Monaco timepiece commemorating 50 years of Gulf Racing. This sporty watch features the iconic blue and orange Gulf Racing stripes and is a modernized version of the original 1969 model.
The new TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition has a 39mm square case made of brushed and polished stainless steel; the crown is on the left side of the watch and chronograph buttons are on the right in the signature Monaco style. The sapphire crystal over the accented blue sunray-finished dial is domed and beveled.
The timepiece features a screwed-in exhibition case back that displays the updated TAG Heuer Caliber 11 self-winding automatic movement. This movement is integrated with a chronograph feature, rapid date-correction, and a 40-hour power reserve. The TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition is the perfect timepiece for racing enthusiasts, combining impressive features and an iconic color scheme.
