Omega has been poolside at many of the world’s most prestigious aquatic events, serving as Official Timekeeper at both the Olympic Games and FINA World Championships. Omega is honored with these responsibilities for establishing itself as an innovator on the cutting edge of timekeeping technologies.
To commemorate Phelp’s retirement from swimming, Omega has released the Seamaster Planet Ocean “Michael Phelps” watch, which is limited to just 280 pieces. The number of pieces made is a tribute to the aquatic champion’s 28 Olympic Games medals – 23 of those being gold. Phelps is famous for the many records he broke throughout his swimming career, so although Phelps was racing ahead, the watch’s chronograph function ensures the timepiece stays right on beat.
The Michael Phelps Seamaster Planet Ocean is powered by the Omega Master Chronometer Caliber 9900 movement. The watch comes on a 45.5mm stainless steel case with a blue ceramic bezel and blue and orange accents on a white dial. The timepiece is affixed to a structured blue rubber strap with an orange lining and stitching, perfectly matching the dial’s color pattern.
This Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean features a sapphire crystal casebback to display the intricate Master Chronometer moment, and a special “Michael Phelps” chromium logo etched into the crystal. While the watch has many features in blue, the clean white dial makes this watch very legible and wearable for aquatic enthusiasts and anyone looking for a bold, technically advanced timepiece.
